Mindless idiots

Driving along a road yesterday afternoon, I saw in the distance a pheasant stood just by the side of the road. Mindful of the damage a pheasant could do – even to the Jeep, I slowed down and made sure I could see where it was. It appeared that this was a wise old pheasant as it stood at the very side of the road out of the way watching the cars go past.

Imagine my horror then, when the car in front of me deliberately swerved towards it and almost mounted the kerb as it struck the poor bird, sending it into the air in a cloud of feathers and beating wings before it landed on the road right in front of me. Sadly I didn’t have time to do the right thing and run over the still alive bird, although I saw in my mirror that the car behind was able to do so.

I simply couldn’t believe it, who on earth would do such a thing? The answer would be a purple Vectra estate with five kids in it, who no doubt thought it was very funny and that they were very cool for doing so.

I had the last laugh, the look of panic in their eyes as a two and a half ton Jeep bore down on them with main beams on and then overtook at the last possible minute was priceless and clearly shat them up.

Sometimes I find myself despairing at the attitude to life and the lack of responsibility that many people seem to have nowadays. It is a problem that I can only see getting worse before it gets better.
