Unexpected publicity
30 04 2008Yesterday I received the May copy of one of the motoring magazines that I subscribe to. As I flicked through the articles to get an idea of the content I happened across an article that went on to name check the race team and some of the development work we’ve been doing recently.
Of course the fact that the journalist who wrote the article is a close friend and happens to be one of our retained race drivers is a mere coincidence. 
In other news, I have been putting some thought into the car(s) we might want to run in 2009 onwards and have been trying to forget thoughts of Porsches, Aston Martins and other such GT cars out of my head. We haven’t even started our 2008 season yet, but practicality means I need to start thinking about the forthcoming years now, especially as we start to budget and plan our activities over the next few months.
I’m drawn towards an Aston Martin N24, best of British and all that.

Cleaned? I’d have insisted that it be removed, destroyed and a new seat installed into a new car, ideally on a new planet. Just to be sure

TT Do you have a race licence and a set of overalls, or would you be taking the naked option?
Ooooh! Ooooh, I have a full set of race licenses (Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec, PS2) and can get overalls. Don’t have a real drivers license so you’d need to give me a lift to the races. Where do I sign?
Mmmm..Aston Martins. Mmmmmmm. Not in yellow though. Naked man optional.
Jo We run the cars in bright orange, so that they stand out on TV coverage and always look bright in photographs. That any better than yellow?
I agree with Jo…I think orange is slightly better, but not by much

Breeza I’ll dig some pictures out of one of last years cars and prove that orange is a good colour
To get a race licence TT all you need to do is pass a medical and then do a days course at a circuit, with a little bit of theory and then laps round the track to show that you know how to drive properly. Then you have to go out and buy the fireproof overalls, gloves & boots as well as a helmet. If you are really serious, you also get fireproof underwear too

Usually the license and gear come in at about £1k if you do the UK National B test. If you do the German one, then about £2k all in. Not cheap, but worth it!
