Costly mistake

29 01 2008

One of my staff has this morning made a mistake that will cost the business ~£25k of revenue as well as hugely inconveniencing one of our best and largest customers. My already busy day in London has been worsened ten times.

It is a good job I’m not in the office though, otherwise at least one person would have been fired at 8.30am.

Now I have to not only do my day of meetings as planned, but also try to rescue a dire situation from escalating even further as the day progresses.

Ouch… still at least you don’t work at Societe Generale.

I was once involved in (although not to blame) for a cock up costing an estimated 80k, but since the company turned over in excess of a billion pound a year it wasn’t as huge an issue as it may sound.

Good luck with the rest of the day.

Yowza…sounds bad. At least it’s not you in the firing line. Bet the person involved is crapping themselves.

Well I think I’ve got it down to about £8k which is better than I thought it would be at 9am this morning.

The person concerned is still crapping themselves and been eating humble pie all day. To their credit they did work their arse off to try to resolve the situation and they phoned the customer themselves to apologise personally. That won them some brownie points just when they needed some.
