I made a girl cry today

30 11 2007

I had lunch with a friend today, we hadn’t seen each other for ages (about 18 months we worked out). So therefore we had a lot of catching up to do. I was telling her about when I was sick and my calm journey towards the light in hospital, which prompted her to start crying.

Of course being ever the gentleman, I assured her that I was not actually dead and handed her a tissue to dab her eyes with.

We then talked for three hours and wondered why, when we live just 15 minutes away from each other, that we are crap at keeping in touch and resolved to do something about it from this point on. Much as I imagine, a reflection on the technical age we live in today, we had resorted to using the book of face rather than actually seeing each other to keep in contact.

Casual conversation

26 11 2007

My office phone just rang, which in itself is not unusual as it will ring for a large part of the day. What was unusual was that the person on the other end happens to own a rather famous motor racing team who wanted to talk to me.

We had a chat about the last few races they entered where they did rather well. We then agreed that we should have lunch and have a discussion about what my race team is doing next year and how we might be able to work closely together.

This would be a major coup for the team, as it would potentially give us the logistical support of an established team at an early stage in our racing career. I shall report back once we have lunched. :)

Tinselworm

26 11 2007

On Saturday night, I went to to see the new Bill Bailey stand up show, Tinselworm down at the NIC in Bournemouth.

Having become a big fan of his stand up comedy, especially Bewilderment and Part Troll I was pleased to hear early reviews that Tinselworm was 98% new material and was side splittingly funny. Those reviews were right, he was very funny indeed and for the 60 minutes of the first half, plus the 90 minutes of the second he was very funny indeed. Never again shall I look at a trouser press the same way and the mental imagine of a harp made from intertwined beard and pube hairs will take many years of therapy to rescind to a safe level.

One of the things that I did enjoy doing was people watching and it seems that Bill Bailey attracts a wide and varied crowd of people to his shows. There were a lot of students understandably. Some of them looked very dirty, almost as if they’d spent all their money on the entry ticket and a bottle of Fosters to the extent they were unable to afford some soap! There were some very freaky alternative dressers and then some people who clearly had no dress sense at all. I felt positively overdressed in jeans, t shirt and a fleece.

Still everyone had a great time and as soon as it is available I shall be buying the DVD.
